I love my ward..it runs like a well oiled engine...and it is nice that they have accepted me...for one being a newie...for two being a Melbournian...as for the Asian bit..don't think it counts that much...
Yesterday showed how much they made my life easier by accepting me as their own...telling me all the planned discharges ahead..ringing me to tell me when the doctors are there...saving me having to chase them up...or to tell me of any changes..like that late antibiotic change..or new additions..
I discharged 9 patients yesterday...a mighty feat considering how long it takes me per one...started preparing for them on Wednesday...7 went home or to nursing homes..2 went to rehab down the corridor...1 went across the road..1 went to an inhouse centre..1 was going to be discharged on Saturday..so in all 9...as the 3 (2 rehab,1 across the road) didn't count..
PS laughed at me for preparing it early..she said it's only Wednesday...told her I can't tell with medical...might be 3 planned and then 4 unplanned..thus I always have to plan ahead...
like the 12...only 10 was planned..the other 2 wasn't ..and even then I couldn't do 3 out of the 10 as the doctors haven't reviewed...had to leave it to the last minute...
out of the 12...the 7 that went home/nursing home went before 11am...which was very good considering I start at 830am...and 3 of them had to chase up the doctor... 1 needed a prednisolone reducing dose...2 needed pre-admission drugs checked with the doctor...
the latter...one needed the antibiotic re-dispensed as the doctor changed his mind he rang me to tell me and thus I was able to confirm the pre-admission medications with him.. the other one C added new drugs which needed to be dispensed..
all in all I did good...and the wards were happy...
