I always dread Mondays as don't know what to expect...
Last week I knew 3 were going home on Monday so I had already prepared their discharges..came Monday it took me half hour to shift them all out...
then the next bit was to see all of my patients and stock them up for the week...well it didn't happen...as soon as I entered medical it was like a war zone...looked on the board to find many new names...newies...I thought oh no...
everything I touched had a problem...drugs not written up properly..the cupboards were bare..nursing staff kept on hassling me for tablets..
one came up to me and said help..she couldn't do it..patient came in with a webster pack..the tablets in the pack didnot correspond to the drug chart..so she didn't know how to give it...ended up asking her for 3 tablet cups..popped them all out and gave her the ones that was written up..wrote a note for the doctor to review..to add the ones that wasn't written up..
came to the next bed to realise his drug chart didnot correspond to the chart from ED..then looked at his nursing home chart..all 3 charts didnot match...didn't know which one was right...so had to decipher what they did while he was in ED..of course they chopped and changed..and the doctor that wrote up our chart missed a few
as soon as I saw a patient...did all the work on them they ended up going home..so all my hard work for nothing...felt like it was endless...my 25 beds turned out to be 33 beds..as 8 went home..so 8 newies..and it started all over again..
near 5pm I was still there..heard 2 more were going Tuesday..which was the next day...one of the doctor asked me why I had looked so stressed..I told him 2 more going home the next day and I haven't had time to prepare for them..told him he'd better not send anymore home..
I was very relieved to shut the door at 530pm...walked out..couldn't hack it anymore..so I left..they will just have to wait till Tuesday..no point staying..
