All In A Day's Work

Came up after 3pm to grab charts for a discharge for Saturday..since it was a quiet afternoon thought I'd better get a bit ahead..and then once that is done I can clean up the department a bit..

ummmmm didn't get around to..came up to find a 94 year old..from EMD..(emergency department) ..febrile..drug chart had Ceftriaxone 2G BD...(Ceftriaxone 2G twice a day) written up by the EMD doctor.. J the NUM asked me what do you think?

I told her...it look excessive..she is after all 94 years old...why don't we give her 1G and ring her doctor up and see what he thinks...if he wants more you can always give another gram...J agreed with me....

J continued...and she's on heaps of tablets..the nursing home haven't faxed over anything much...

took one look at her stuff from the nursing home..yes..they did fax..but no dose or strength of tablets..

so off I went to find the servicing pharmacy's number..rang them..asked them for the list..they were quite prompt..and faxed back pretty much straight away...

while waiting for the fax...I went into the room to find the relatives..asked them if she was allergic to any medications...they replied no...don't think so..

then went back to the pharmacy to grab what ever was not in the ward stock and dispensed it as owing for her...

her doctor was still with her when I left..so guess I will get a big list of tablets to dispense when I turn up tomorrow..
